The El Dorado-class was a type of heavy frigate fielded by the Federation Starfleet during the 24th century.
Design[]
The El Dorado was made up of a circular saucer section connected to a separate engineering hull by a short neck. It made use of a tri-nacelle design, with a third nacelle mounted dorsally of the engineering hull and slightly forward of the outer pair. This allows for the El Dorado to maintain high warp speeds for longer periods of time, making it a useful fast response unit.
Reasonably armed with five phaser arrays, two on the saucer and two on the secondary hull. A fifth array was hidden and was only usable if the saucer separated from the engineering hull. It was also equipped with two forward and one aft photon torpedo launchers.
The El Dorado was also designed with two extensive shuttlebays. Located on the port and starboard sides of the saucer.[1]
